On Saturday, I did a PrayerLife Seminar here in the Philadelphia area. It is about the 40th prayer seminar I’ve done since the start of seeJesus nine years ago, but I continue to be surprised at the almost electric response to the seminar. People are hungry to learn “prayer that works.” We’ve been praying for several years that God would raise up a “prayer champion” who would own and expand our PrayerLife Ministry.

The PrayerLife Seminar, like the Person of Jesus Seminar, is aimed at two mindsets that have imprinted the church. The first, ancient Greek Gnosticism despised the physical, making spirituality weird. The second, the 18th century Enlightenment despised the spiritual and segmented prayer off into the world of feelings and “true for you.” Both disconnected prayer from life. Thus, our name, “PrayerLife.”

With little effort on our part, the overseas usage of the Person of Jesus study continues to expand. In February our board voted to bring on RichardEckhardt to be our “Missionary Coordinator”. He will be raising support to train missionaries and national Christians to use the Person of Jesus study.Richard has already led conferences in Peru and Chile using the study and spearheaded our Spanish translation. Richard hopes to start work June 1st.

I am about a week away from turning in the manuscript for “A Praying Life” to NavPress. Then it goes through a lengthy editing process. Its “street date” is May 15, 2009.

Our giving through March 31st was $115,000. We have to reach $248,000 by June 30th. Partly because of my work on the book, we are behind last year’s giving. On Friday, a friend surprised me by telling me that he and his wife wanted to give us a $20,000 matching gift that would match new gifts or increases in giving of $1,000 or more.
