In this episode, [JESUS] 2. Footwashing and Beauty, we look at the foot-washing in John 13. Paul draws our attention to a number of details in the story, including Jesus’ silence:
“When Jesus leaves space through either silence or questions, it leaves room for others to emerge. I think as a leader, one of my great struggles is always filling space – with ideas, with words. It has really convicted me as I compare myself to Jesus’ care for people.
"I think as a leader, one of my great struggles is always filling space—with ideas, with words."
“Perhaps it's an odd thing to think of leaving space as care for people, but when I don’t fill all the space in the room with either my words or my explanation, I leave room for you to be yourself. I think it’s very much related to the work of the Spirit. Jesus is in step with the Spirit, so he doesn’t have to explain everything that he’s doing.”
